Overview

Any job in Information Technology is going to require a solid foundation of core knowledge.  This certificate is designed to provide a foundation of the following technologies:

  • Networking fundamentals
  • Databases and how to query information
  • Windows Server basics, including Active Directory, Power Shell, etc.
  • Linux Administration
  • Cybersecurity Fundamentals

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the certificate, successful graduates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate how to install different servers.
  • Design, configure, and query a relational database.
  • Configure a peer-to-peer network.
  • Demonstrate cybersecurity techniques including configuring proper security policies.
  • Prepare students to take industry certification exams.
  • Demonstrate proficiency through experiential learning and projects.

Graduation Requirements

  1. Minimum of 15 total semester credit hours as outlined
  2. Grade of C or higher in all core courses
  3. Cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher

The following certifications can be obtained at the completion of the corresponding course (assuming final exam scores meet the established requirements).

  • Server Pro: TestOut’s certification of proficiency in the latest Windows Server environment
  • Linux Pro: TestOut’s certification of proficiency in the fundamentals of configuring a Linux environment
  • Network Pro: TestOut’s certification of proficiency in basic networking technologies and environments
  • Security Pro: TestOut’s certification of proficiency in Cybersecurity fundamentals

Students who successfully complete this certificate will have the knowledge to sit for the following industry exams after completing these courses.  These exams are not required to pass the course and there is an additional charge to sit for the exam.

  • Network+ CompTIA’s certification of proficiency in basic networking technologies and environments
  • Security+ CompTIA’s certification of proficiency in Cybersecurity fundamentals
  • Linux + CompTIA’s certification of proficiency in Linux fundamentals
