Overview

The Network Engineering Core certificate is designed as an “intermediate” certificate. Because of needed prerequisites to take some of the courses in this certificate, it is assumed that the student has already completed the IT Fundamentals certificate before signing up for this program. Students will learn how to manage and configure key networking devices, including routers, switches, etc. Upon completion, students will be prepared to sit for key networking industry certifications that can be added to their resume.

Career Opportunities

Career opportunities for a student with this certificate could include entry-level IT positions within an IT department or corporate help-desk. Advancement opportunities increase with experience.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the certificate, a successful graduate will be able to:
Demonstrate basic proficiency in Linux administration
Configure common networking devices
Demonstrate proficiency in network troubleshooting
Demonstrate proficiency in designing correct subnetting strategies

Recommended Course Sequence

Courses in this certificate presume some previous coursework or industry experience with networking and IT Fundamentals. Industry certifications, or previous work experience, may waive prerequisite requirements, but approval from the Department is required.

Graduation Requirements

1. Minimum of 15 total semester credit hours as outlined
2. Grade of C or higher in all core courses
3. Cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher
