MCO 180 Introduction to Medical Billing and Coding

Introduces students to the Revenue Cycle and how it affects the payment of services involved in the medical industry, as well as HIPAA laws and violations. Topics include collecting patient, types of insurance plans, claim form submission, patient billing, third-party payments, denials, and collections. This course is also an introduction to subjects that will form the basis for Body Systems and Medical Coding courses, which are to follow. Topics include an overview of body structures, the organization of body systems, introduction to CPT (procedures), ICD-10-CM (diagnoses), and HCPCS coding, as well as the use of modifiers and coding guidelines.
